In order to relocate overseas, Ellen DeGeneres and her spouse, Portia De Rossi, are leaving the United States. As reported by several outlets on Nov. 20, the couple has relocated to England and intends to sell their home in Montecito, California. According to sources, the reason for their move was when former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Ellen had supported, in the 2024 election earlier this month.
The pair, who got married in 2008, appeared to be settling down across the pond last week when they were seen at British host Jeremy Clarkson's pub, The Farmer's Dog, in Burford, England.
Ellen recently moved to the Cotswolds, a celebrity-favorite rural area in England that includes Burford, according to TheWrap and TMZ. Over the years, Ellen has owned a number of opulent properties in California, including in Montecito, close to Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Oprah Winfrey.
In recent years, the 66-year-old had mostly avoided the limelight. After 19 seasons, she canceled her daytime show The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022 after an internal investigation into claims of a "toxic work environment." In 2020, three senior employees had left the production.
On her show that year, Ellen expressed regret, stating, "We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter."
Ellen gave the indication that she was quitting the entertainment industry in July of this year. Ellen corrected a fan who asked if they could expect to see her on Broadway or the big screen anytime soon during her stand-up comedy show in Santa Rosa, California.
She said, "Um, no," according to SFGATE. "You won't be seeing me again after this. I'm done after my Netflix special.
The "final comedy special of her historic career," Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, debuted on Netflix in September.
"I was dismissed from the entertainment industry. On the special, the Finding Dory star joked, "Yeah, because I'm mean." "You cannot work in show business and be cruel. No, you will be expelled. There are no cruel people in show business.
I "loved" my show, Ellen said, adding, "It was a family to me."
"I have a choice of people remembering me as someone who is mean, or someone who is beloved," she stated. "I choose that."
