The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to expand its multiverse saga with the announcement of Avengers: Doomsday, set to premiere on May 1, 2026. Fans are excited as the film marks the return of Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., reuniting after their memorable roles as Captain America and Iron Man in 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

According to Variety and The Wrap, Chris Evans, widely known for portraying Steve Rogers (Captain America), will star in Doomsday, though details about his role remain undisclosed. While speculation suggests he could reprise his iconic role, other possibilities include playing a Captain America variant—perhaps an alternate HYDRA version—or even a new character entirely. Evans briefly returned to the Marvel fold earlier this year in Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising his role as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four films of 2005 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr., who bid farewell to his Iron Man persona in Endgame, is confirmed to return, not as Tony Stark but as Doctor Victor von Doom, the formidable villain from the Fantastic Four universe. This shift adds intrigue to the storyline, as Doomsday delves into multiple timelines and universes.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars (slated for release on May 7, 2027), will conclude the MCU's Multiverse Saga. The Russo Brothers have hinted at connections between these films and the two-part narrative of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. This connection could pave the way for reunions with other MCU stalwarts such as Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, and Paul Rudd's Ant-Man.

While Disney and Evans' representatives have yet to comment, anticipation for Doomsday continues to grow.
