Ryan Sutter and Trista Sutter are pleased with his health. Just over three years ago, the Bachelor Nation couple, who got married in 2003 after meeting on the first season of The Bachelorette, revealed that Ryan had been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Additionally, Trista is pleased to say that her husband of 21 years is generally feeling much better.
"I would say he's about 80 percent," she exclusively told Will Marfuggi of E! News, adding that "Lyme is difficult because not everyone who has experienced it finds a cure with a single medication or treatment plan. Everybody is unique.
The 52-year-old claims that Ryan, with whom she has a 17-year-old son named Maxwell and a 15-year-old daughter named Blakesley, underwent several treatments to reach his current state and that he is "pretty good" most of the time.
"But then he'll have a bad day for whatever reason," she said, "and you can't tell if he's just sick or if he's just tired from Lyme." However, he's much better now than he was two or three years ago. He was quite ill.
Before being finally diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2021, a condition that can be brought on by a tick bite, Ryan, 50, had been battling his health for a year. This had a negative impact on both Trista and Ryan.
She said, "It's been hard," on her Better Etc. podcast at the time. "It's a really difficult thing to see the person that you love most in this world struggling. And he's a big strong guy, and to see him get emotional and feel helpless in a way in that all I could do was really advocate for him. So, that's what I did."
Before receiving a diagnosis, Ryan claims that his "body would just itch for no reason." I would experience some really bad headaches.
He had "periods of extreme fatigue" and pain that were unlike anything he had ever experienced, the reality star continued.
"I mean, I've done a lot of things that have made me tired,” the firefighter explained, “but this was beyond tired."
Additionally, the couple struggled to find ways to treat his symptoms even after learning more about the illness.
Shortly after receiving his diagnosis, Trista sobbed as he said, "It's been hard," on the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast. "I hope he gets better. I want him to feel fantastic when he wakes up. He should be able to spend time with our family and make memories. And when you don't feel good, it just takes away from life."
Trista added, "I'm not doing great...I've been struggling for sure."
