Jessica Simpson has provided an update on her relationship with estranged husband Eric Johnson, a month after announcing their split following ten years of marriage. Despite their separation, the singer affirms that Johnson remains a significant part of her life.

"I don't know why my heart gets tossed around but I'm one of the lucky ones," Simpson shared in an interview with People. "At least I have my children and I still have Eric. He's still very much a part of my life and will always be."

The former couple, who share three children, Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5 continues to co-parent. They even lived together temporarily in a rental home outside Nashville while Simpson worked on her upcoming EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, which is set to be released on March 21.

"Discovering this music is something I did on my own," she explained. "Thank God I had Nashville, it was just a way of me owning myself and declaring it." The five-song project marks her return to music, and she describes it as a personal and artistic declaration of independence. "I am a woman now and I can do what I want and to have freedom in music—I think that's what you're going to feel in Nashville Canyon."

Simpson has also reflected on the personal growth she has experienced over the years. "I've grown up so much. I can handle so much," she said. "Maybe I'm just meant to love a lot of people in my life."

The singer's younger sister, Ashlee Simpson, recently expressed pride in Jessica's resilience and evolution. "We are strong little ladies," Ashlee told Us Weekly. "I think that's a cool thing about life just always growing and finding yourself, wherever that's supposed to be."

Speculation about Simpson and Johnson's separation began in late 2024 when the singer was seen without her wedding ring on multiple occasions. In January, she confirmed the breakup, stating, "Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them."

She also expressed gratitude for the support she has received during this transition. "We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

While her personal life undergoes change, Simpson has channeled her emotions into music, with sources revealing that her latest project was heavily influenced by her recent experiences.
