YouTuber and outdoor adventure guide Andrew Cross, known to his 400,000 subscribers as "Desert Drifter," passed away on March 4, 2025, after being taken off life support following a traumatic brain injury sustained in a car accident on January 31. He was 36 years old.

The Colorado-based content creator, whose exploration and adventure videos with historical themes garnered over 68 million views since November 2023, was surrounded by his wife Evelyn, parents, and close friends in his final moments.

Cross' sister Jenna announced his passing on a CaringBridge site established to update family, friends, and fans. "Andrew's spirit is free, surrounded by light & love," she wrote. "He went to be with the Lord today."

Prior to removing life support, medical staff placed Cross on a mobile ventilator and walked him through the ICU while available staff lined the hallway in tribute. In the room, family and friends read scripture, prayed, and sang during and after the process.

"It was peaceful and beautiful," Jenna shared in her update. "Andrew really lived life to the fullest, and his story & impact isn't over yet."

The tragedy began unfolding on February 2 when Evelyn took over her husband's YouTube channel to inform followers about the accident. "Friday night, Andrew was in a really bad accident. He is currently in the intensive care unit fighting for his life from a really severe brain injury," she explained in the video.

Throughout Cross' month-long hospitalization, the family received tremendous support from his online community. A GoFundMe page established to assist with medical expenses reached $479,491 in donations by the time of his passing.

Friend Tara Winter posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on March 5, writing, "He was one of the best people I've ever known. He was genuine, selfless, and had a deep love for God and everyone he met. Just being around him made you love him."

Cross leaves behind a legacy of adventure, exploration, and connection with his audience. His sister noted it has been "wonderful to get to know him in new ways" through photos and stories shared by many, adding that the family looks "forward to more of that as we honor a life well lived."
