Selena Gomez has never shied away from speaking her truth, and in a recent interview with Jay Shetty, she tackled one of the most frustrating aspects of being a woman in the public eye—social media scrutiny. Sitting alongside her fiancé, record producer Benny Blanco, Gomez got candid about the double standards women face online, explaining how the pressure of being judged on everything from appearance to relationships takes a mental toll.

While Blanco takes a carefree approach, avoiding comments altogether, Gomez admitted that she isn't always able to do the same. "Women have it much harder," she stated, adding that their looks, weight, and personal lives are constantly under a microscope in a way that men rarely experience.

She described the emotional strain of simply attending public events, saying that most of the time, she just hopes to take a photo and sit down without feeling overwhelmed. She also touched on the identity struggles she faces as a Latina in Hollywood, noting how she's often criticized for not being "white enough" or "Mexican enough."

Online negativity isn't new for Gomez. From body-shaming to personal attacks, she has seen it all, but she remains firm in her resolve. While she acknowledges reading comments from time to time, she mostly chooses to ignore them. "It doesn't add to your life," she explained.

Despite the toxicity, Gomez recognizes the power of social media, both for connecting with fans and raising awareness. However, she keeps a healthy distance by not having the apps on her phone. Instead, she focuses on living in the moment, creating music, and embracing the love in her life—including her upcoming wedding to Blanco.

While the internet may be a tough place, Gomez's resilience proves that staying true to oneself is the ultimate win.
