The tranquil landscape of North Yorkshire has witnessed some Hollywood action in recent days as production ended on a new adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights. Emerald Fennell is directing the film, with Margot Robbie starring as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. The film is scheduled to be released on February 13, 2026, and has already generated a buzz.

The shoot employed various scenes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, including Arkengarthdale, Swaledale, and Low Row village. The locations provided a perfect setting to re-create the atmospheric and moody environment of the novel. Robbie and cast members stayed at Simonstone Hall in Hawes, which is an old country house renowned for its stunning views and decent hospitality. During her stay, Robbie was said to be polite and even signed autographs for the hotel workers and greeted her family with the hotel’s resident animals.

On set, Robbie was pictured wearing a flowing white wedding dress and veil, which is thought to represent Catherine’s wedding to Edgar Linton. The decision on what to wear caused controversy over historical accuracy, with some pointing out that the fashion did not become popular until decades later than the time of the novel. Nevertheless, fans are keen to see Robbie’s take on the complicated character.

Casting of Robbie and Elordi has had variable reactions. Age differences concerned some fans, as Robbie is around her mid-thirties while Catherine is a teenager throughout much of the novel. There has also been discussion over Elordi’s casting of Heathcliff, whose problematic ethnicity has been a concern in literary analysis.

Despite such controversies, a lot of expectation is pinned on Fennell’s interpretation of the timeless classic. The Saltburn and The Promising Young Woman director adds a fresh perspective to the traditional tale of lust and revenge over the Yorkshire moors. With the release date approaching, the audience eagerly waits to see how this adaptation balances staying loyal to Brontë’s legacy and offering a contemporary film experience.
