As the all-female crew led by Lauren Sánchez, which included Katy Perry and Gayle King, took off on Blue Origin's NS-31 mission on April 14, other celebrities offered their less than glowing opinions of the historic journey.
Amy Schumer posted a mocking video of herself declaring that she was invited to the mission at the last minute.
In an April 14 Instagram video, the comedian joked, "Guys, last second they added me to space, and I'm going to space," while brandishing a Black Panther toy. "This is what I'm bringing. 'Do you want to go to space?' I received the text while riding the subway, and even though I don't understand it, it was in my bag. I'm going to space."
"Thank you to everyone who got me here," Schumer added. "I'll see you guys in space."
Olivia Wilde, meanwhile, took issue with the expensive project that Jeff Bezos' space technology company had planned. A meme featuring Perry kissing the ground in relief following the crew's safe landing was reposted by the director of Don't Worry Darling. The caption stated that they were "getting off a commercial flight in 2025" in reference to the many plane accidents that have occurred in recent months.
On her Instagram Stories, Wilde commented, "I guess billions of dollars bought some good memes."
However, Olivia Munn made headlines earlier when she criticized the "gluttonous" stunt, so Schumer and Wilde weren't the first celebrities to voice their opposition to the eagerly awaited Blue Origin mission.
During her April 3 guest co-hosting of Today With Jenna & Friends, the Your Friends & Neighbors actress asked, "What are they doing?" "There are so many other things that are so important in the world right now, even though I know this is probably not the cool thing to say."
"I know this is probably obnoxious,” Munn continued, "but, like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there are a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs."
The Newsroom alum continued by raising doubts about the potential effects of the Blue Origin mission on humanity.
"What's the point? Are you guys going on a ride in a historic way? It seems a little gluttonous to me," she remarked. "The purpose of space exploration was to increase our understanding and to help mankind. What are they going to do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
