Katy Perry launched her highly anticipated Lifetimes world tour in Mexico City on Wednesday, turning controversy into a cosmic spectacle. Just days after her polarizing Blue Origin space trip, the pop star took the stage at Arena CDMX, embracing a full-fledged space theme, complete with gravity-defying stunts and sci-fi-inspired costumes.

The 40-year-old singer soared above her audience using aerial harnesses and delivered an energetic performance filled with dramatic costume changes, including a silver metal bodysuit and a white dress with tubes connected to her head. She also shared a moment with two fans dressed in NASA jumpsuits, taking a selfie with them onstage.

Seemingly addressing critics of her brief 11-minute voyage aboard Jeff Bezos' New Shepard 31 rocket, Perry asked the crowd, "Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?" The question resonated with the tone of the evening, as Perry faced criticism over the "out of touch" nature of the all-female flight, which included Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe, and Kerianne Flynn. Former fans labeled the group "space tourists," while one PR expert warned that Perry could be facing a "career extinction."

Despite the backlash, the Grammy nominee appeared unbothered, incorporating space choreography into her show and sending a bold message with her performance. "She was spinning, soaring, and serving zero-gravity realness so unapologetically that it felt like a giant, glittery 'F*** You' to the critics," one outlet reported. Her crewmates have also defended the flight, with Perry herself described by an insider as not regretting the journey: "It was life changing. What she does regret is making a public spectacle out of it."

The Lifetimes tour includes over 80 shows across various continents and will conclude on December 7 in Abu Dhabi. However, Perry recently announced the cancellation of two upcoming concerts in Guadalajara due to venue construction delays. "I wish I could fix this but it is beyond my control," she said via Instagram. "You guys mean the world to me... I will be thinking about how I can create something special for the fans in Guadalajara in the future."

Perry's next stop is Houston on May 7.
