Pedro Pascal is stopping J.K. Rowling from acting in this way. The Last of Us actress, whose sister Lux Pascal is transgender, criticized her celebration of a U.K. Supreme Court decision that excludes trans women from the legal definition of woman amid the Harry Potter author's continued anti-transgender views.
Pascal described Rowling's support for the law on Instagram, writing, "Awful disgusting S--T is exactly right." "Abhorrent LOSER actions."
Despite first voicing her opposition to transgender rights in 2020, Rowling has persisted in speaking out on her social media accounts. She provoked criticism earlier this month when she wrote, "I love when a plan comes together," in an X post in response to the Supreme Court's decision.
Furthermore, although Pascal is the most recent celebrity to criticize Rowling's backing of anti-trans activity, he is not the first. Actually, the actors who portrayed Harry, Hermione, and Ron in the Harry Potter movies—Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint—have all criticized Rowling's views.
In 2020, Daniel submitted a long essay for the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that helps LGBT children, saying, "While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, I feel compelled to say something at this moment." Women who are transgender are women. Any remark to the contrary violates the advice of professional health care associations, who are far more knowledgeable about this topic than Jo or I are, and erases the individuality and dignity of transgender people.
"It means to you what it means to you, and I hope that these comments will not taint that too much," he said, referring to the devoted Harry Potter fan following.
Shortly after Rowling's initial disparaging remarks about the transgender community on X, Watson posted on social media, saying, "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren't who they say they are." She also noted that she wanted her trans followers to know that she and countless others around the world see, respect, and love them for who they are.
