A man identified as Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, 48, has been arrested and booked for felony vandalism after allegedly driving his vehicle through the front gate of Jennifer Aniston's Bel Air home. The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Monday, with Aniston confirmed to be at home at the time, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Authorities stated that Carwyle's motive remains unclear, but the LAPD's Threat Management Unit has taken over the case, which often handles incidents involving public figures, including harassment and stalking. Police are also investigating the possibility that the crash was intentional and potentially linked to stalking behavior. "Investigators said the crash appeared to be intentional, but the motive was unknown," according to sources familiar with the case.
Carwyle was initially misidentified as a 70-year-old man in early reports and emergency broadcasts. The discrepancy in his age remains unexplained. After the crash, he was reportedly pulled from the vehicle by a private security guard and detained at gunpoint until officers arrived. Officer Jeff Lee described the suspect as a "white middle-aged man," and confirmed he was taken into custody and booked.
Carwyle's booking was delayed after he complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that he has a minor criminal history and that his background is under review. Investigators are also examining social media activity associated with his name. One Facebook post allegedly authored by Carwyle bizarrely referred to Aniston as his "bride," fueling suspicions of potential stalking.
Aniston, 56, was not harmed in the incident and did not interact with Carwyle. Her representatives have declined to comment on the matter. The LAPD confirmed that the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which will determine the final charges.
The home in question, a 10,000-square-foot midcentury modern estate, was purchased by Aniston in 2012 for $21 million. It sits on a 3.4-acre hilltop plot with ocean and city views. The property, originally built in 1965 by renowned architect A. Quincy Jones, includes a guesthouse, swimming pool, and vineyards. Reports indicate Aniston is preparing to relocate to Montecito, approximately 84 miles up the coast.
