In a tragic turn of events, the Los Angeles Police Department has launched a criminal investigation into the source of the ketamine that led to the untimely death of beloved actor Matthew Perry. According to LAPD Captain Scot Williams, federal agencies, including the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Postal Inspection Service, are also participating in the joint investigation, which has been underway for some time.

Perry, widely adored for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom "Friends," was found lifeless in the pool of his Pacific Palisades home on October 28, 2023. The Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that the 54-year-old actor died due to the "acute effects of ketamine" and subsequent drowning. The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division, owing to Perry's high profile, spearheaded the initial death investigation and continued probing the ketamine source following the release of the autopsy report in December.

Captain Williams, while refraining from delving into specifics, hinted at the potential criminal aspects of the case. "Hypothetically there's a potential for criminal culpability depending on what the investigation uncovers, but at this point, we're not there yet," he remarked, emphasizing that authorities are focusing on tracing the origins of the drugs and identifying those responsible for supplying them. The DEA has remained tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation, directing inquiries back to the LAPD.

The autopsy report shed light on Perry's use of ketamine, noting that he had been receiving infusion therapy to manage depression and anxiety. However, it was noted that his last known treatment occurred a week and a half before his death, a period well beyond the drug's presence from therapeutic use.

Matthew Perry's death has left a void in the entertainment industry and among fans worldwide. Celebrated for his wit and charm, Perry's portrayal of Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004 alongside Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow, cemented his status as a household name. His career extended beyond television with memorable roles in films such as "Fools Rush In," "The Whole Nine Yards," and "17 Again."
