Universal Pictures has officially set the release date for the next and final chapter in its long running Fast and Furious franchise. The film now titled Fast Forever is scheduled to arrive in

theaters on March 17 2028. The announcement was made by Vin Diesel himself who has been the face of the franchise since it began more than two decades ago.

Fast Forever will serve as the eleventh main installment in the Fast and Furious series and is expected to conclude the core storyline that started with the original film in 2001. Including the 2019 spinoff Hobbs and Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham the franchise will total twelve films. Over the years the series has grown into one of Universal Pictures most successful properties earning more than 7 billion dollars at the global box office.

Louis Leterrier is returning to direct Fast Forever after previously helming Fast X which was released in 2023. Vin Diesel once again reprises his role as Dominic Toretto the central character of the saga. Fast X ended on a massive cliffhanger leaving the fates of several major characters unresolved. Because of this plot details for the upcoming film as well as the full list of returning cast members are being kept under wraps for now.

Initially there was hope that a follow up to Fast X would arrive as early as 2025. However those plans shifted and the studio ultimately settled on a 2028 release date. The extended gap has only increased anticipation especially given the unresolved ending of the previous film. Fans have been eager to see how the story concludes and how the franchise will bring its long running themes of family loyalty and high stakes action to a close.

Diesel has teased aspects of the final installment over the past few years. During an appearance at Fuel Fest last year he suggested that the next film would return to the roots of the franchise. According to Diesel Fast Forever aims to reconnect with car culture and street racing which were central elements of the early films before the series expanded into globe spanning action spectacles.

The project was previously known as Fast X Part 2 before being retitled Fast Forever. The new title signals a sense of finality while also celebrating the enduring legacy of the franchise. The Fast and Furious films have evolved significantly since their debut starting as a street racing crime drama and eventually becoming large scale action blockbusters with international settings and ensemble casts.

As the final chapter approaches Universal Pictures is positioning Fast Forever as a major event release. The March 2028 date places it in a prime spring slot reflecting the studio’s confidence in the film’s box office potential. With Vin Diesel leading the cast and Louis Leterrier back in the director’s chair the final installment is expected to deliver a conclusion that honors the history of the franchise while tying up the lingering questions left by Fast X.

After twenty five years Fast Forever is set to bring one of the most successful and recognizable action franchises in modern cinema to its conclusion. Fans now have a date to mark on their calendars as the Fast and Furious saga prepares for its final ride.
