The psychological thriller The Housemaid starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried is preparing for its streaming debut after a successful theatrical run. Directed by Paul Feig, the film will begin streaming on Starz on April 1. The release on the streaming platform comes after the movie first arrived on premium digital and premium video on demand on February 3, just forty six days after its theatrical premiere on December 19.

Based on the best selling novel by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid brings a tense and dramatic story to the screen. The film follows Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, a young woman trying to escape a troubled past. In search of a fresh start, she takes a job working as a housemaid for the wealthy Nina Winchester, portrayed by Amanda Seyfried. What initially appears to be a stable and promising opportunity quickly begins to unravel.

As Millie settles into her new role inside the Winchester home, she begins to discover that the life she has stepped into is far from perfect. The elegant household hides secrets and unsettling truths. The story unfolds as a psychological game filled with manipulation, tension, and shifting power between the characters. Beneath the polished appearance of the Winchester family lies a web of shocking twists that keeps viewers guessing until the very end.

In addition to Sweeney and Seyfried, the film features a strong supporting cast that includes Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins. Their performances help deepen the tension and complexity within the story as the mystery surrounding the Winchester household continues to grow.

The film has not only captured attention because of its gripping plot but also because of its strong commercial performance. Early during its theatrical run, The Housemaid

surpassed Bridesmaids to become Paul Feig’s highest grossing movie of all time. The film has earned more than 394 million dollars worldwide, marking a significant milestone in Feig’s directing career and highlighting the strong audience interest in the story.

Following this box office success, Lionsgate has already moved forward with plans for a sequel. The next film is expected to be titled The Housemaid’s Secret, based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s popular trilogy. Production is currently being targeted for a 2026 start. Sydney Sweeney is expected to return to star in the sequel and is also looking to serve as an executive producer. Michele Morrone is also being considered to return for the next chapter.

Paul Feig is expected to return to direct the sequel, continuing the story from a script written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who also adapted the first film.

With its upcoming arrival on Starz, The Housemaid will join a growing collection of films on the platform. The movie will be available through the Starz app as well as all Starz streaming and on demand services. It will be part of a lineup that includes titles such as Now You See Me Now You Don’t, Good Fortune, and The Long Walk, along with the final season of Outlander, which continues releasing new episodes every Friday throughout the month.
