The battle between Superman and Lex Luthor is set to reach a new level in DC Studios’ upcoming sequel Man of Tomorrow, with director James Gunn revealing the first look at Lex Luthor’s iconic warsuit.
Gunn shared the image on social media with the simple caption, “Fit check. Live from the set of ‘Man of Tomorrow.’” The photo immediately generated excitement among DC fans, offering a glimpse of Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor equipped with the powerful armor that has become one of the character’s most recognizable weapons in comic book history.
In DC Comics, Lex Luthor’s warsuit is designed to help the billionaire genius compete with Superman despite lacking any natural superpowers. Over the years, Luthor has developed several versions of the armor, each equipped with advanced technology that grants him extraordinary abilities. The suits typically provide enhanced strength, flight capabilities, defensive force fields, and an arsenal of powerful weapons, allowing him to challenge even the Man of Steel.
The newly revealed image suggests that Luthor’s story in Man of Tomorrow may take an unexpected turn. Based on the setting shown in the photo, it appears that the villain could find himself traveling to a sandy world somewhere in outer space. The image has also fueled speculation that Luthor may not remain imprisoned for long following the events of Superman, setting the stage for another major confrontation with his longtime rival.
James Gunn returns to direct the sequel, which will once again feature David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. However, the central threat facing the heroes and villains alike will be Brainiac, the highly intelligent intergalactic cyborg who will be portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
According to details revealed about the film, Superman will be forced into an unlikely alliance with his greatest enemy, Lex Luthor, in order to stop Brainiac. The partnership between two of DC’s most famous adversaries is expected to be one of the film’s most intriguing story elements as they confront a threat that could endanger entire worlds.
Several familiar faces from the first film are set to return. Rachel Brosnahan reprises her role as Lois Lane, while Skyler Gisondo returns as Jimmy Olsen. Sara Sampaio is back as Eve Teschmacher, alongside Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
The sequel will also continue expanding the new DC Universe. Milly Alcock, who made a cameo appearance as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor El, is set to return after leading this summer’s Supergirl. Additionally, Aaron Pierre will make his big screen debut as Green Lantern John Stewart, a character first introduced through the HBO Max series *Lanterns*.
With production now underway and the first look at Lex Luthor’s formidable warsuit officially revealed, anticipation for Man of Tomorrow continues to grow. The combination of Superman, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and an expanding roster of DC heroes promises a film that could play a significant role in shaping the future of James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
