In “Flight Risk,” Mel Gibson’s latest directorial effort, attempts to deliver on high-altitude thrills but faces turbulent headwind conditions as it scrambles to stay aloft. Mainly confined within the tight confines of a small propeller plane flying over the treacherous Alaskan wilderness, it rounds up an impressive cast consisting of Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace. This movie, though, has been on the receiving end of a range of critical responses, most of them not very flattering.

In December 2024, the sequel to the Spanish-language YA movie “Culpa Mía” (“My Fault”)-titled “Culpa Tuya” (“Your Fault”)-hit Prime Video. The film became the number one movie on Prime Video in more than 170 countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Canada. Significantly, 90% of its viewership came from outside Spain, testifying to its global appeal.

Walt Disney Pictures’ newest release, Mufasa: The Lion King, is performing quite impressively at the worldwide box office as it grosses $486.4 million globally to date from January 10, 2025. That easily places the film in the top 10 of the highest-grossing movie musicals ever-made, passing titles such as 2016’s La La Land.

Filmmaking legend Steven Spielberg gave a talk at the TCM Classic Film Festival in New York about his stubborn decision to deny a sequel to his much-adored 1982 masterpiece, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Spielberg opposed any attempts for continuation despite monumental success in order to maintain its singular quality and keep magic alive.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, following its short rest in 2024, will roar again. This means 2025 has been prepared for: “Captain America: Brave New World”, the ensemble “Thunderbolts”, and an introduction to Marvel’s First Family in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. The films that were to hit in between only prepare a path to the mammoth release, “Avengers: Secret Wars”, which was set for May 7, 2027.
