Sabrina Carpenter took home her first-ever MTV Video Music Award at the 2024 VMAs, held at UBS Arena in New York on September 11. The 25-year-old pop star won the Song of the Year award for her hit single "Espresso," marking a significant milestone in her career.

In her acceptance speech, Carpenter expressed her excitement, saying, "I've literally never won one of these before. This is really special." She was quick to thank her fans, adding with a laugh, "If you clap after everything I say, they're going to cut me off the stage!"

Carpenter emphasized her gratitude toward her supporters, acknowledging their role in her success. "You guys are the reason I get to do what I love, and we get to share music together. I feel so lucky to have the best fans in the world," she said.

Before wrapping up, she thanked her managers, family, and pets, even giving a playful nod to the much-discussed lyric in "Espresso." She also expressed appreciation to the song's collaborators, including songwriters Steph Jones, Amy Allen, and Julian Bunetta, saying, "I love making music with you, and I can't wait to share more with the world."

Carpenter concluded her speech with a lighthearted sign-off: "And thank you to 'That's that me, espresso!'" referencing the memorable lyric from her award-winning track.

"Espresso," released in April as a single from her sixth studio album Short n' Sweet, became a commercial success, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself spent two weeks atop the Billboard Hot 200 after its August release. Carpenter has been nominated for six awards at the 2024 VMAs, including Artist of the Year and Best Pop Song.

This year's win follows Carpenter's rise to stardom, which has accelerated over the past year. She recently gained even more attention after opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour. The 25-year-old artist continues to make waves in the music industry, and her latest achievement at the VMAs only solidifies her status as a rising star.

The 2024 MTV VMAs aired live on September 11 from UBS Arena in New York.
