The iconic singer, 56, shared a heartfelt Instagram post featuring a photo from their 1994 wedding. In the touching image, Dion, wearing her bridal veil and headpiece, gazes lovingly into Angélil's eyes while holding his cheeks. Angélil, in turn, gently holds her waist. "You still fill our hearts every day. You mean everything to us. We miss you so much. Happy 30th anniversary, mon amour," Dion wrote, signing the message on behalf of herself and their three children: René-Charles, 23, and 14-year-old twins, Nelson and Eddy.
Dion and Angélil's love story began in 1980 when a 12-year-old Dion auditioned for him. He became her manager, and their professional relationship turned romantic seven years later when Dion was 19. Initially, she kept their relationship private, fearing public judgment. "I was afraid of what people would think," she told People in 1994. However, Dion eventually went public with their love, saying, "When you're in love, you want to scream it to the world."
The couple wed on December 17, 1994, at Montréal's Notre-Dame Basilica in a grand ceremony broadcast on Canadian television. Reflecting on the day, Dion told Vogue in April 2024 that she wouldn't change a thing. "This is a moment I'll carry with me forever. The dress couldn't have been bigger. I could've had six dresses that night because René was, and still is, such a wonderful human being. He brought out the best in me."
Four years after their wedding, Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer but was declared cancer-free in 2000, a milestone they celebrated with a vow renewal in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, his cancer returned in 2014 and claimed his life two years later.
Dion continues to honor Angélil's memory. In a 2022 interview, she revealed she keeps his photos close, saying, "I'm still married to René. He will always be my husband."
Despite facing her own health struggles, including a diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome, Dion remains devoted to preserving Angélil's legacy.
