Hurricane Francine hit the coast of Louisiana on Wednesday, making landfall as a Category 2 storm with winds of 100 mph. It caused widespread damage and left more than 221,000 homes and businesses without power. The storm struck Morgan City and spread along the coast, affecting New Orleans and other regions, bringing intense rainfall and the potential for tornadoes.
Governor Jeff Landry urged residents to remain indoors, warning of life-threatening conditions such as flash flooding and storm surges that could bring water levels up to 10 feet. Louisiana, along with neighboring states Mississippi and Alabama, declared states of emergency as they braced for the storm's impact.
Although Francine is weakening as it moves inland, it continues to pose a threat with its heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and dangerous storm surge. As a result, several flights in and out of New Orleans were canceled, schools were closed, and residents in vulnerable areas were asked to evacuate.
