Tommy Norman, a veteran officer with the North Little Rock Police Department and a well-known social media presence, was arrested over the weekend on a charge of third-degree domestic battery. The incident reportedly involved an argument with his wife, who alleged that Norman struck her. Norman’s version of events differs; he claims he was attempting to block a slap from her, and in doing so, caused the injury.
According to police reports, officers were called to a residence shortly before midnight following a report of domestic violence. Norman’s wife, Rosalynd, told responding officers that he struck her on the right side of her chest with the back of his hand. Officers observed what appeared to be a slight visible injury on her chest. Norman, 53 years old and with 27 years on the force, reportedly denied striking her intentionally, saying he acted only to defend himself. No injuries were reported on Norman.
Norman was arrested and held in Pulaski County Jail. He was released on bond, which was set at $350. The North Little Rock Police Department confirmed he has been placed on administrative leave while both the internal investigation and judicial process unfold. A plea and arraignment hearing have been scheduled for early October.
Norman has built a reputation as an officer who emphasizes community outreach, using social media to highlight positive interactions and philanthropy. He has been involved in youth programs, neighborhood engagement, and has received national recognition, including the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. His online following is substantial, and he often appears in uniform in his community-focused content.
Following news of the arrest, Norman’s wife released a public statement acknowledging that the family is facing challenges, but asking for privacy, grace, and prayers. She emphasized their continued love and respect for each other, requesting that the matter be handled with dignity. The couple married in 2019, having been together since 2013.
The case has drawn widespread media attention given Norman’s public profile. While supporters have expressed concern over his arrest, others are calling for due process and reminding the public that allegations are not convictions. As the legal proceedings move forward, many are watching closely to see how the North Little Rock Police Department handles both the internal review and the public’s demand for transparency.
