In 2019, while visiting his native country of Dominican Republic, Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, suffered an attempt on his life and this Wednesday, 10 people involved in the attack have been convicted on attempted murder, Dominican authorities confirmed.

Ortiz was ambushed by a man that was riding a motorcycle and shot him in the back at close range, while the slugger was enjoying a night out with some friends in a neighborhood of Santo Domingo.

Carlos Correa was in the St. Regis San Francisco with his parents, brother and in-laws, ready to head to Oracle Park for his introductory news conference. That's when agent Scott Boras asked the prized player to meet him in room 1212.

Farhan Zaidi, the Giants' president of baseball operations, had called Boras at 8 a.m. PST Tuesday morning, three hours before the scheduled announcement.

"He reported to me that they needed more time, more evaluation," Boras said Thursday. "They had not made any decisions, but they weren't prepared to go ahead with a news conference because they didn't feel they would be able to collect the information within that short period of time."

The Los Angeles Lakers (12-16) defeated the Denver Nuggets (17-11) Friday night at Crypto.com Arena despite Anthony Davis going down with a concerning right foot injury in the first half.

Davis, 29, did not return from the locker room for the second half, with Thomas Bryant taking his place at center.

Bryant, 25, finished the game with 21 points and six rebounds, while AD had scored 10 points in 17 minutes of play.

The Detroit Tigers have bolstered their rotation by agreeing to a one-year contract with right-hander Michael Lorenzen, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Lorenzen will make $8.5 million and can earn $1.5 million in performance bonuses based on innings pitched, another person told The Associated Press on Thursday.
