Manchester City remain on course for a fourth consecutive title after a hard fought win against Tottenham Hotspur prevailing against them 2-0. Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was riled by fans who suggested that they throw the match in a bid to prevent their rivals Arsenal from winning the league.

Amid all this backlash, the team still had a UEFA Champion’s League spot to fight for. They wasted no time in making a statement in the game as the Uruguayan, Rodrigo Bentancur sent a dipping shot that was successfully parried over by Ederson. Spurs were playing some positive attacking football but despite that they almost gave City the opener when Phil Foden almost punished Pierre Emile Hojberg who made a horrible miskick in the box forcing Gugliemo Vicario into a superb one-handed save.

The game offered excitement for neutrals of the sport as both sides sought to find their rhythm in the game amid the backdrop of a subdued crowd. The man who had scored five goals in seven appearances as a defender, Josko Gvardiol sought to make it six in eight but fired over from Kyle Walker’s searching delivery.

Gunners’ fans were ecstatic in seeing the game drawing itself out but in the 51st minute Erling Haaland emphatically burst their bubble with a goal. The lay up from Kevin De Bruyne was practically begging to be finished as it was on a plate and all that it needed was for the Norwegian to tap it in to the net. The only task City were left with was to see out the game.

This was not an easy task as Tottenham piled on the pressure. In the 69th minute we saw Ederson forced off the pitch after a nasty collision with Cristian Romero forcing Pep Guardiola to bring in Stefan Ortega. The German was involved in the action almost immediately as he was forced to deny Dejan Kulusevski from the near post to preserve their slender lead.

Ortega was not yet done as he denied Son the opportunity to level the match in a one-on-one situation which undoubtedly enraged Arsenal fans all over the globe. After Pedro Porro brought down Jeremy Doku, they were awarded a penalty in which Haaland made no mistake in doubling the lead sending Manchester City on the verge of their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
