Arsenal are preparing a £70 million bid for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães as the Premier League champions continue their search for high-profile additions ahead of the new season.
The Brazil international has emerged as one of Arsenal's top transfer priorities, with the club keen to strengthen its midfield following last season's title-winning campaign. Reports suggest Guimarães is interested in making the move to the Emirates, and Newcastle are aware of his desire to join Mikel Arteta's side this summer.
Negotiations over a potential transfer have gathered momentum in recent days, although it remains uncertain whether Arsenal's proposed offer will satisfy Newcastle's valuation of the 28-year-old midfielder.
Despite the growing speculation, sources close to Newcastle insist the club has no intention of selling its captain during the current transfer window. They also maintain that Arsenal have yet to submit an official approach for the player.
Arsenal have made it clear they are targeting proven quality as they seek to strengthen a squad already capable of competing at the highest level. However, the club remains committed to maintaining financial discipline and is unwilling to exceed its internal valuations, regardless of the player's profile.
That approach was evident in their pursuit of Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers. Arsenal valued the England international at around £80 million but refused to increase their offer. Chelsea ultimately completed a deal worth £117 million after Arsenal declined the opportunity to match the final bid.
The same strategy is expected to apply to Guimarães. While Arsenal remain determined to secure his signature, they are not prepared to pay significantly above what they believe represents fair market value.
The Gunners are also looking to reinforce their defence. Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa is understood to be the club's preferred defensive target, and Arsenal have already made enquiries regarding his availability. Como defender Jacobo Ramon is another player being monitored, although contractual clauses are believed to complicate any potential transfer.
In attack, Arsenal continue to search for additional firepower following their failure to land Rogers. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is viewed as the club's ideal signing, but completing a deal appears difficult. The Argentine reportedly favours a move to Barcelona, while his transfer fee could exceed the British record £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak.
Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has also been discussed as Arsenal explore alternative attacking options. With several positions still under review, the North London club is expected to remain active in the transfer market as it looks to build a squad capable of defending its Premier League crown and challenging for more silverware in the season ahead.
