The 38-year-old Bayern Munich star played 124 matches for Germany, captaining his country 61 times. His final appearance came in the quarter-final loss to eventual champions Spain at Euro 2024.

It marks the first time since the 2009/10 season that both top men's awards have been won by English players.

Chelsea are set to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix (24) in a deal which could see Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher (24) move to the Spanish club. Chelsea are reported to have agreed a $52 million fee with Atletico to bring the player back to Stamford Bridge. Felix had a disappointing six-month loan spell at Stamford Bridge in the second half of the 2022/23 season, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.
