Jeep has taken the wraps off the Wagoneer S, the brand's first fully electric vehicle offering for the United States market. Priced from $71,995, the Wagoneer S aims to bring Jeep's off-road capability and adventurous spirit to the growing electric SUV segment.
"The Wagoneer S ushers in an all-new era of economic mobility while delivering true Jeep 4xe capability," said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. "This groundbreaking vehicle will appeal to those who have an adventurous lifestyle, and can now enjoy a fully electric Jeep SUV with enhanced on- and off-road performance."
The Wagoneer S rides on a dedicated EV platform and features dual permanent magnet motors generating 600 horsepower and 668 lb-ft of torque. A battery pack options include either a standard 90 kWh pack or an extended range 117 kWh pack, with targeted ranges of up to 300 miles and 400 miles respectively.
On the capability front, Jeep quotes up to 24 inches of water fording, over 20 inches of ground clearance, and approach/departure angles of 35 degrees and 30 degrees. Advanced all-terrain traction control and an available locking differential help maximize grip off-road.
Inside, the Wagoneer S has seating for up to seven across three rows. A full suite of advanced driver assistance technologies comes standard, including automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system. The infotainment system features a massive 25-inch curved display along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
"We left no stone unturned in making the Wagoneer S the most capable and dynamic electric Jeep yet," said Ralph Gilles, chief design officer at Stellantis. "Its bold styling combines modern elements with traditional Jeep design cues that our customers know and love."
Pricing for the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S starts at $71,995 for the base Touring model, with the top Outbound trim level starting at $89,995. The extended range battery option adds $9,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2024.
Analysts view the Wagoneer S as a critical product for Jeep as the brand maps its path to an all-electric future by 2030. "It's make or break for Jeep in the EV era," said Jessica Caldwell of Edmunds.com. "They need to prove they can deliver a true electric off-roader without compromises."
Jeep has not yet released full specs, fuel economy estimates or range figures verified by the EPA for the Wagoneer S. Reservations are now open with a $500 refundable deposit.
