Tragedy struck at the Bicton International Horse Trials in southwest England as British event rider Georgie Campbell passed away at the age of 37 after falling from her horse during a competition on May 26. The incident occurred at fence 5b, and despite immediate medical attention, Campbell could not be saved.

Campbell was a seasoned rider, having competed in over 200 events. She was known for her skill and passion for the sport. Her husband, Jessie Campbell, is also a renowned event rider who represented New Zealand at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Together, they formed Team Campbell Eventing, sharing their love for riding through joint social media accounts that documented their competitions and achievements.

The tragic accident occurred while Campbell was riding Global Quest, her trusted companion in many competitions. The horse, fortunately, emerged from the incident uninjured. Campbell's love for Global Quest was evident in her social media posts, where she often praised the horse's performance and shared their memorable moments together.

In previous posts, Georgie had often praised Global Quest for his abilities. In October, she shared several pictures of the 11-year-old horse, highlighting a particularly successful week of riding. "Brilliant week with Global Quest doing what he does best flying round the XC giving me a class ride", she wrote. She also mentioned the challenges they faced, "After picking up an injury at the start of the year and needing some quiet time we lacked a bit of match practice which showed in the dressage and showjumping, but it was so great having him back feeling so fit and well".

The equestrian community is mourning the loss of Georgie Campbell, a talented rider whose life was tragically cut short. Her legacy as a skilled event rider and her love for horses will be remembered by all who knew her.
