Kathy Griffin is navigating her divorce from Randy Bick "one day at a time," she revealed at the ERA Coalition Forward Women's Equality Trailblazer Awards on May 29. Speaking to People, the comedian expressed her gratitude for her current tour, which helps distract her from the separation. Griffin, 63, filed for divorce from Bick in December, citing "irreconcilable differences" and requested the court enforce their prenuptial agreement to avoid spousal support for either party. "Well...s**t. This sucks," Griffin tweeted at the time.
Griffin launched her first tour in six years, "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the PTSD-List," which she describes as a celebration of resilience and humor. She credits the tour with helping her cope, saying, "I thank God for this tour. I thank God it happened. I'm just so grateful to be on tour, so it takes my mind off it."
Griffin's relationship with Bick began in 2011 after they met at a food and wine festival. They dated for seven years before a brief split in 2018, which Griffin announced on Twitter, stating, "It's not acrimonious and I will always adore him." They reunited and married on January 1, 2020, in a ceremony officiated by Lily Tomlin. However, their relationship deteriorated, and by December 2023, Griffin decided divorce was the only solution.
Griffin and Bick's separation was complicated by his sudden disappearance. After leaving their shared home at Griffin's request, Bick's whereabouts became unknown, prompting Griffin to hire a private investigator. Despite these efforts, he remained unlocated, and Griffin moved to enter his default. Subsequently, Bick requested spousal support and attorney’s fees according to their prenuptial agreement.
Reflecting on the end of her marriage, Griffin referenced Joan Rivers' saying, "The more your life is in the s**t, the funnier you are," humorously adding, "So I must be hilarious." Griffin continues to focus on her career and the positive aspects of her life amidst personal challenges.
