Ryan Garcia is adamant that he won't face jail time following his alleged hotel meltdown. The boxer was charged with misdemeanor vandalism on Thursday, accused of causing significant damage to a room and hallway at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills on June 8. The charge could result in a year-long prison sentence, with Garcia set to be arraigned in Los Angeles on August 7.
Garcia, currently suspended, took to social media to declare, "No way I'm going to jail." However, the decision might not be up to him. Recently, Garcia agreed to enter a rehab facility following an incident where he allegedly harassed his ex-wife, a disturbing scene captured on social media. Garcia has since apologized, expressing regret for his actions.
On June 8, Garcia was taken into custody after allegedly causing $15,000 worth of damage at the hotel, including to the room he was staying in and the extending hallway. According to TMZ, Garcia appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs but cooperated with authorities during his arrest. Video footage shows Garcia being arrested, shirtless and wearing a helmet.
The 25-year-old boxer, who defeated Devin Haney earlier this year, has been under scrutiny for his erratic behavior. His conduct before the fight raised questions about his mental stability. Following his victory, Garcia failed a doping test, leading to a year-long suspension from the New York Athletic Commission.
In 2024, Garcia vacillated between remorse and defiance over various incidents. He recently blamed "the elites" for his WBC expulsion after audio surfaced of him making racist comments. Despite his challenges, Garcia remains defiant, maintaining his innocence and determination to avoid jail time. As his legal and personal battles continue, the once-promising boxer's future remains uncertain.
