Nicole Kidman is focused on going down memory lane. The Eyes Wide Shut actress, who costarred with her ex-husband Tom Cruise in the Stanley Kubrick-directed 1999 picture, recently thought back on the shooting, including if she believed Kubrick took cues from her and Cruise's relationship.
Kidman, who was married to Cruise for ten years before their 2001 divorce, told the Los Angeles Times, "I suppose he was mining it." There were concepts in which he found interest. He would have a lot of inquiries. However, he felt strongly about the narrative he was narrating. He did say, "Triangles are hard," as I recall. When there is a triangle, you have to proceed with caution.
"Because one person could feel ganged up on," the Oscar winner continued. However, he understood it and knew how to control us.
Furthermore, as the 57-year-old—who is parents to 29-year-old Connor and 31-year-old Isabella with the Top Gun star—explained, she and her former partner had a unique relationship with their director.
She went on, "There's something more about being a woman in that equation." Stanley also had a thing for ladies. His friendship with Tom was different. They collaborated more closely on his character development.
While Kidman has rarely discussed her connection with the Mission Impossible star in the past, she has acknowledged that the movie's "narrative," which centers on themes of power and betrayal, is a true account of her and the actor's romance.
Kidman, who is also a mother to two children, Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13, with husband Keith Urban, said, "We were happily married through that," to the New York Times in October 2020. "We used to race go-karts following those events. At three in the morning, we would rent out a place and go racing. There's nothing more that I can say. Perhaps I'm not able to look back and analyze it. or I refuse to do so."
Despite any claims to the contrary, she said that their time with Kubrick was good.
Kidman went on, "This is where the fallacy is: We loved working with him." "We spent two years filming that. Stanley loved to occasionally join us for dinner, so we were cooking spaghetti and living in a trailer on the lot with two children. On set, we were having fun, learning about our lives, and collaborating with the best director around."
