Selena Gomez wants her admirers to stop speculating about how she looks. The 32-year-old addressed recent internet rumors that the "Lose You to Love Me" singer had had cosmetic surgery in response to a TikTok video published in 2023 by a medical assistant in a Florida plastic surgeon's clinic on July 27.
"Really, I detest this," Selena wrote in her comment on the post. The star of Only Murders in the Building continued, saying, "I have Botox," and that she was "on stripes because of flare up." That is all. Give me some space."
Fans conjectured that Selena, who has lupus and disclosed on social media last December that she received Botox, might have spelled "stripes" incorrectly.
The PA, Marissa Barrionuevo, showed two images of the actress's face side by side on the video: one shot a few years ago and one showing her at the 2023 Golden Globes. The TikToker made no speculations herself about any possible differences in Selena's appearance.
"I think she's been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don't think it's fair to speculate whether or not she's gotten cosmetic things done," she stated. "At the end of the day, let's just leave her be."
In a later follow-up video, the PA apologized to Selena. "I adore you," she stated. "I really do mean the best, so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever."
She said, "You don't owe it to anyone to tell us why you don't look the same as when you were a teenager or in your twenties."
Selena also gave a response to the supplementary video. "She added in a comment, "I love you," posted on July 28. "Not about you. I just get sad sometimes."
