Swift, 35, is no stranger to dominating Spotify. In 2024 she was named the platform's global top artist for the second year in a row with more than 26.6 billion streams. She also held the year's top-streamed album with The Tortured Poets Department. Her 2019 hit Cruel Summer ranked ninth among the top 10 most-streamed songs worldwide. At the time, Swift celebrated the news on Instagram Stories, writing, "Top Streamed Artist AND Album on @spotify this year?! You guys are unbelievable. What an amazing thing to find out going into our last weekend of eras shows. THANK YOU!"
The singer announced The Life of a Showgirl, her 12th studio album, during her debut on fiancé Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce's podcast New Heights. She unveiled the cover and tracklist, which includes songs such as Elizabeth Taylor, The Fate of Ophelia, Eldest Daughter, Actually Romantic and the title track featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Speaking about the record, Swift explained that it reflects her inner world during the Eras Tour, describing it as exuberant, electric and vibrant. "I'm so proud of it, and it just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. That effervescence has come through on this record," she said.
She also shared details about the album visuals, which show her partially submerged in a sparkling outfit with mint green and shimmering orange accents. "My day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress," Swift noted. "I wanted to glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour felt, and that image captured what it was like at the end of the night when everything had unfolded."
