Chelsea managed to close the gap between them and top six to three points after they managed to ease past a sloppy Tottenham Hotspur. After the events of the previous week having the blues claw their way up securing a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, Chelsea looked full of confidence in the opening fifteen minutes.

Striker Nicholas Jackson was denied the opportunity to open the scoring after Gugliemo Vicario denied his one-on-one opportunity. Mykhalio Mudryk was a constant thorn in the Tottenham defense but none of his targets managed to hit home. The hosts continued to probe for an opener and their efforts were rewarded in the 24th minute as club favorite, Connor Gallagher, brought in a dangerous in-swinging free kick which was met by the graceful head of Trevor Chalobah and ended up into the far corner of the net.

The hosts completely dominated the game and showed no signs of letting up as Mudryk once again missed the target from a poetic curler aiming for the far post. Tottenham had the chance to bring themselves back to level terms before the break but Christian Romero’s header went harmlessly wide off the target.

Determined after the break, Tottenham emerged with renewed focus. Brazilian striker, Richarlison came within inches after an instinctive strike went wide off the near post. Pedro Porro was also denied as Chelsea goalkeeper managed to parry away his cross-cum-shot. Tottenham were desperate to keep their dreams of playing in Europe alive as they continued to push for an equalizer with time not on their side. The next goal of the game proved decisive to the dismay of the Tottenham fans and players alike.

Nicholas Jackson managed to pounce and loop a header to the far corner after Cole Palmer’s free kick reverberated against the woodwork. Mauricio Pochettino’s men managed to kill off the visitor’s fightback and in the process boosting their morale all together. Ange Postecoglou will be hoping for a positive response against Liverpool on Sunday after a third successive league defeat.
