Title winners Real Madrid made easy work of Deportivo Alaves winning 5-0 at their home stadium Santiago Bernabeu extending their unbeaten run in La Liga to 30 matches. Madrid captain Nacho, led out the team through a guard of honor. However in the second minute, Alaves showed their intent wasn’t celebration as Samu Omorodion forced Thibaut Courtois into a scrambling near post save.
Eight minutes later, Real Madrid showed their class as where Toni Kroos curled a cross into the back post where Jude Bellingham delightfully volleyed with his side foot to send the ball over goalkeeper Jesus Owono. Fifteen minutes later, a second goal followed when Bellingham slipped a ball through to Eduardo Camavinga. The French international had all the rime in the world before squaring it to Vinicius Jr who had the easiest of finishes from six yards out.
A desperate but brilliant effort by Ianis Hagi from 25 yards forced Courtois into a save at full stretch. Los Meringues crushed all the hopes of a comeback for Alaves in the 45th minute when Bellingham found Fede Valverde who rocketed a strike past Owono at his near post. Three goals at half-time. After the break, Alaves showed how they needed a top half finish in La Liga after seven years. This saw testing strikes from Hagi and Omoridion.
At the other goalpost, Owono managed to deny Vinicius his second but it happened only once. Twenty minutes left on the clock, Bellingham unlocked the Babazorro’s defense and Vinicius fired it home scoring his 15th league goal. With ten minutes left to play, Madrid managed to bag a fifth when Rodrygo saw his shot deflected onto the path of Arda Guller who slotted it into the net.
Real Madrid are now eyeing a Champion’s league final having gone an entire year without a home defeat.
