The unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen will be taking on Atalanta in the 2023/2024 UEFA Europa Final. The final will be played at Dublin Arena in the Republic of Ireland. The final will be played on 22nd of May this year, Kick off being at 21:00 CET.
This Europa final is such an historical milestone for Atalanta. This will be their first ever European final. This comes after a massive 4-1 goal aggregate in the semi final against Marseille.
Bayer Leverkusen on the other hand managed a massive 4-2 aggregate against Roma. Roma was the last team to win against Leverkusen late last year.
Dublin Arena will be hosting the second international final after the all Portuguese 2011 final between Braga and FC Porto. An historic final that saw Ramadal Falcao securing the only winning goal in the final.
István Kovács, a Romania referee is expected to be officiating the match. This is after his splendid performance in the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League between Feyenoord and Roma in Tirana.
In the last season’s UEFA Europa league final, the defending champions Sevilla won by 4-1 aggregate on penalties against Roma. Jose Mourinho’s team in charge has never lost a single final. This was the first final in charge that he lost.
This penalty shootout was after a 1-1 draw. Roma being the last season’s finalists have only managed to be in the semi finals alone. Sevilla on the other side being the best team in the cup's history having won it six times, in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020 were however eliminated earlier on.
Roma however has only managed to lift the trophy once in 1991. The last season’s final was the first UEFA cup to ne held in in Budapest. It was also the third UEFA club competition final to be held in the city.
This came after the 2019 UEFA Women’s Champions league final and the 2020 UEFA cup. The Stadium was also a chosen venue for the UEFA Euro 2020.
