Manchester United have managed to end their three match H2H losing streak after taking on Newcastle in a five goal thriller at the Theatre of Dreams. The Magpies enjoyed the better of the opening ten minutes but almost found themselves behind when Casemiro’s overhead kick flew over the bar.

The Red Devils seemed to spur into action after that chance with Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho almost opening the scoring. Before the half-hour mark, Amad’s pass was subtly flicked on by the classy Bruno Fernandes, finding Kobbie Mainoo and the United teenager applied an accomplished finish to break the deadlock. Eddie Howe’s men were close to a return statement as they were millimeters off the mark when Dan Burn’s header was cleared off the line by Casemiro.

Sofyan Amrabat managed to trip Anthony Gordon inside the area which delighted the visiting fans but referee Robert Jones waved away penalty appeals. The England winger Anthony Gordon clinically converted Jacob Murphy’s cross after the restart to restore parity in the game. The hosts now had a certain sloppiness in their game and it really struck a blow when Aaron Wan Bissaka found himself at the receiving end of a three on one counter attack.

Sofyan Amrabat was the hero of the occasion making a goal-saving challenge on Alexander Isak to deflect the Swede’s effort over the bar. This chance once again spurred Ten Hag’s men into action seeing them scoring their second of the game. Amad, left unmarked on all corners, picked up a loose ball and rifled through a crowd of bodies to score his maiden Premier League goal in style.

As it was norm for this match-up, Newcastle managed to resume control after going behind seeing Sean Longstaff failing to beat Andre Onana after he was sent through in by Joelinton. Gordon fired the ball agonizingly wide before one of Ten Hag’s substitutes made the desired impact.

Rasmus Hojlund managed to slip a yard away from Dan Burn and slid a low finish to put United two goals ahead. A late goal by Lewis Hall raised the anxiety in Old Trafford but Manchester United managed to hold firm to seal a crucial victory that keeps them in the hunt for a top seven finish on the final day.
