Great Britain's quest for a Billie Jean King Cup title ended in disappointment after Slovakia staged a dramatic comeback to win the semi-finals on Tuesday in Malaga, Spain.
Emma Raducanu gave Britain an early lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Viktoria Hruncakova. However, Katie Boulter lost a three-set battle to Rebecca Sramkova, leaving the semi-finals to be decided in doubles. Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls, playing their first match of the tournament, fell 6-2, 6-2 to Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova.
Slovakia's victory dashed Britain's hopes of reaching the finals for the first time since 1981. Despite the setback, Raducanu showcased her resilience, winning all her singles matches during the event. "It was a tough match, but I'm pleased with my performance this week," she said.
Slovakia advances to face Italy in the final, while Britain's wait for the prestigious title continues.
