In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a shooting occurred near Canadian rapper Drake’s luxurious mansion in Toronto’s affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood. The incident took place around 2:00 a.m. near Bayview and Lawrence avenues. The man was left seriously injured. The victim, who was identified as Drake's security guard, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Fortunately, Drake himself was not harmed during the incident.
“That person was working apparently as a security guard at the residence. He was standing outside the gates in front of the residence when the shooting occurred,” officer Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force said.
As per reports, the male victim, aged 48, was transported to a nearby hospital for surgery, with his injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Authorities are actively investigating the situation, and details about the suspect remain scarce. The shooter reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle.
“We have individuals who obviously performed the shooting, who were seen in a vehicle. I do not have a description of the vehicle or the suspects at this time. Again, it’s very early on in the investigation,” Krawczyk said.
A representative for Drake confirmed that the rapper was not injured in the shooting. The Toronto-born artist has been making headlines recently due to his ongoing rap beef with Kendrick Lamar.. Police have yet to release further information about the motive behind the shooting or any potential leads. "Information is very limited at this time. But as we get information, we will share it with you," Krawczyk said.
The area around Drake’s mansion was cordoned off by police tape as investigators worked to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Residents in the neighbourhood expressed shock and concern, as the Bridle Path is known for its exclusivity and security. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
