Buckingham Palace has received an overwhelming number of "get well soon" cards and gifts for the Princess of Wales, following her courageous announcement that she is undergoing cancer treatment.
The palace's correspondence team has been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support for Princess Kate, 42, who shared an emotional video revealing she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy. She has temporarily withdrawn from public life to focus on her treatment and her family.
The public's response has been immense, with thousands of cards, letters, and gifts arriving at the palace. The volume of correspondence has been challenging for the staff, but they are committed to replying to everyone in due course.
While the Prince and Princess of Wales have their own office at Kensington Palace, all royal family mail is handled by the Court Post Office. Typically, the palace receives up to 1,000 letters per week, but this number has surged since the princess's health issues were disclosed.
Princess Kate was unexpectedly hospitalized earlier this year for major abdominal surgery, staying at The London Clinic for two weeks before returning home. In March, amid global speculation, she confirmed that initial non-cancerous findings had revealed cancer. She emphasized her need to focus on recovery and support her young children, requesting privacy during her treatment.
There has been no official health update since, but recent sightings of the princess with her family have been taken as positive signs. Nonetheless, Kensington Palace has reiterated the need for her continued privacy and recovery time.
At the launch of a landmark report by her early years business taskforce, a Kensington Palace spokesman clarified that her appearance should not be seen as a return to work. A senior royal aide added that while the Princess of Wales has remained informed about the taskforce, she will fully return to her public duties only when she receives medical clearance.
