Netflix is heading to the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival with high hopes to unveil its latest animated titles, including a world premiere and first looks that highlight its growing ambition in the animation space.
Leading the list is adult animated feature Fixed, directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, the visionary filmmaker behind Primal and Hotel Transylvania. The long-in-development, once distributor-less project has been rescued by Netflix, which will world premiere it on June 11 in Annecy’s Théâtre Bonlieu. Fixed makes a hard left from family animation to adult comedy with a wacky premise: a dog learns he’s going to get neutered and embarks on one wild night of living life in the fast lane. Tartakovsky, whose kinetic animation style and off-kilter storytelling have endeared him to legend status, has been eagerly expected to return to feature animation. Netflix will release the movie globally on August 13, 2025.
Along with Fixed, Netflix will also offer a first look at In Your Dreams, a magical animated musical adventure directed by director Alex Woo and co-director Erik Benson. The film tracks siblings Stevie and Elliot as they journey into the realm of dreams to rescue their parents’ crumbling relationship. The innovative plot is backed by a voice cast that includes Simu Liu, Craig Robinson, and Cristin Milioti. While aimed at family and younger audiences, the emotional depth and lush animation suggest a story with broad appeal. Annecy audiences will get the first glimpse of the film’s animation and direction, with a chance to witness how Netflix continues to venture into new storytelling territories in family animation.
Another major attraction is Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated show set within the Stranger Things universe. Executive producer Eric Robles will be on hand to introduce the show, which takes a new twist on the current lore by delving into stories that take place within the same timeline but provide different points of view. The sneak preview should be able to capitalize on the show’s loyal fanbase while also emphasizing the flexibility of animation as a method of franchise extension.
With this lineup, Netflix is signaling that its dedication to animation isn’t just about quantity, but bold creative ambition. Spanning from raunchy adult humor to sincere family adventures and franchise continuations, Netflix is aiming to showcase the full breadth of what animated storytelling can provide.
