"Grey's Anatomy" is preparing to say goodbye to longtime cast members Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who will exit the ABC medical drama at the conclusion of its Season 22 finale, scheduled to air May 7.

The actors, who portray Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman, have been central to the series' evolving emotional core for years. Their characters,  both former Army surgeons whose relationship has endured war, distance and personal upheaval,  have experienced one of the show's most turbulent love stories, most recently marked by a failed attempt at an open marriage and a divorce.

McKidd joined the series in Season 5, quickly becoming a fixture of the ensemble, while Raver first appeared in Season 6 before later returning as a regular after a brief departure. Across their combined tenure, the pair helped define multiple eras of the long-running drama.

Their exits are understood to be driven by creative direction, leaving open the possibility of future appearances.

Beyond their on-screen work, both actors contributed behind the camera. McKidd directed dozens of episodes over the years, becoming a key creative force within the production. Raver also stepped into directing in later seasons, reflecting the show's broader effort to cultivate talent within its cast.

In a statement, series creator Shonda Rhimes described their departure as both emotional and fitting, noting that the characters' journey may ultimately land on a hopeful note. She praised both performers for bringing depth and authenticity to their roles, emphasizing the lasting impact they've had on the series.

McKidd reflected on his time with the show as a defining chapter in his career, highlighting both his acting and directing experiences. Raver similarly expressed gratitude for her years portraying Teddy, crediting the creative team and fans for sustaining the show's legacy.

As Season 22 wraps production, only a handful of episodes remain before their final appearance. While their storyline is coming to a close, the legacy of Owen and Teddy, both individually and together, is expected to remain a lasting part of the "Grey's Anatomy" universe.
