Suri Cruise, the 18-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. However, it is a small detail on her graduation certificate that has captured public attention: Suri has dropped “Cruise” from her name.

In the graduation pamphlet obtained by Page Six, she is listed as “Suri Noelle,” using her middle name instead of her father's surname. This move follows the recent trend of celebrity children altering their names, as Brad Pitt’s daughters, Shiloh and Vivienne, have also reportedly dropped “Pitt” from their last names.

Suri celebrated her graduation with her mother, Katie Holmes, who has been a supportive and guiding figure throughout her life. Holmes has made significant efforts to provide Suri with a normal upbringing despite their high-profile status, often shielding her from the public eye. This decision to change her surname is seen as another step towards establishing her independence.

Suri’s relationship with her father, Tom Cruise, has been strained for years. Cruise, heavily involved with the Church of Scientology, has not seen Suri since 2012, following his divorce from Holmes. This estrangement is believed to be a significant factor in Suri’s decision to drop the Cruise name.

As Suri moves on to the next chapter of her life, she will be attending Carnegie Mellon University, where she plans to study fashion. This choice reflects her passion for the arts, as she has been actively involved in theater during her high school years. Suri’s recent roles in school productions, including starring in the play “Head Over Heels,” highlight her dedication to the performing arts.

The move to Carnegie Mellon marks a new beginning for Suri, who is eager to chart her own path. Despite the complexities of her family dynamics, she steps into this new phase with the support and pride of her mother. Katie Holmes has expressed both pride and the emotional difficulty of sending her daughter off to college, underscoring their close bond.

Suri Cruise’s decision to adopt “Suri Noelle” symbolizes her desire for independence and a fresh start as she embarks on her college journey. This milestone is a testament to her growth and resilience, shaped by her unique family circumstances and her mother’s unwavering support.
