Joe Cole is the latest high profile addition to Amazon MGM Studios untitled Navy SEAL movie starring Alan Ritchson. The project marks a reunion between Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes following their previous collaboration and continues to gain momentum as one of the studio most closely watched upcoming films.

The movie is based on an extraordinary true story from the final days of the Vietnam War. It centers on Navy SEAL Mike Thornton played by Ritchson and depicts one of the most remarkable acts of bravery in modern military history. During a covert mission in North Vietnam five American servicemen find themselves trapped behind enemy lines and vastly outnumbered. Facing a force of approximately 150 enemy soldiers the team must endure relentless gunfire and impossible odds in a desperate fight for survival.

As the situation grows more dire Thornton leads a dangerous retreat toward the South China Sea. The escape becomes even more perilous when both a gravely wounded lieutenant and another injured soldier are tied to him as he enters the water. Thornton swims for hours through hostile territory while under constant threat. His actions ultimately save lives and earn him the Congressional Medal of Honor recognizing one of the highest displays of valor in United States military history.

Disney is once again turning to its deep library of classic characters, this time focusing on one of its most recognizable villains. The studio is in early development on a live action movie centered on Gaston, the larger than life antagonist from Beauty and the Beast. Sources confirm the project is being written by Dave Callaham, with Michelle Rejwan producing. At this stage, no director is attached.

DC Studios has released the first trailer for Supergirl, offering fans their clearest look yet at Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El and the long-rumored debut of Jason Momoa as the intergalactic mercenary Lobo. The footage sets up next year's major DC event film with a mix of cosmic grit, emotional weight, and the punk edge James Gunn has teased for months.

Trafalgar Releasing has announced a March 11, 2026 domestic release for the Holocaust drama The Optimist, with an initial commitment of more than 700 theaters across the United States. The film stars Stephen Lang and Elsie Fisher and is based on

the true story of Holocaust survivor Herbert Heller, whose late life decision to share his past changed the lives of thousands of young people.

Letterboxd is moving from a simple place to track and rate films to a service where you can actually watch them. On Wednesday December 10 the company will launch its new Video Store in twenty three countries. It is a major step for a platform built on film discovery and on the habits of its more than twenty four million members.

The Video Store will not work like a subscription service. You pay only for the films you want to watch and you get a forty eight hour window once you start a title. Prices vary by country and by film. In the United States the launch titles will cost between 3.99 and 19.99 to rent. What makes the store stand out is its focus on curation. The team behind Letterboxd used millions of watchlists reviews and signals from its community to decide what to offer at launch. Every title has been chosen because members showed interest in it and because many of the films have been almost impossible to find in certain regions.

Kate Hudson and Jeremy Allen White have both built careers rooted in emotional honesty, but this year places them in especially resonant territory. Each stars in a film centered on music not as spectacle, but as survival. Hudson leads Song Sung Blue, portraying one half of a Neil Diamond tribute duo whose story balances hope with heartbreak. White steps into the daunting role of Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen Deliver Me From Nowhere, focusing on the artist during the stripped down and deeply personal Nebraska era.

Netflix has rounded out the core cast of its upcoming comedy The Fifth Wheel, adding Nikki Glaser, Brenda Song and Fortune Feimster to star alongside Kim Kardashian. Eva Longoria is directing the film from a script by Paula Pell and Janine Brito. Kardashian and Pell are producing with Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Alex Brown through the Gloria Sanchez banner, along with Cris Abrego and Longoria through Hyphenate Media Group. The project has been on a fast track since Netflix secured it in a competitive bidding war over Thanksgiving weekend in 2023.
