AS Monaco opened their league phase campaign in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with a 2-1 victory over a 10-man Barcelona - an eighth win from their last ten home games against Spanish opposition. Monaco could hardly have asked for a better start to their first UCL group/league stage game since 2018/19.

An incredible double stop from David Raya (29) helped Arsenal to a goalless draw against Atalanta in their opening match day of the Champions League at the Gewiss Stadium. The only true moment of action in the first half came in the opening quarter-hour, as Bukayo Saka whipped in a free-kick from the edge of the area, forcing Atlanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi into a fine low stop.

Stuttgart won a fourth consecutive clash against Borussia Dortmund, beating their opponents 5-1 to extend their unbeaten home run to 14 Bundesliga matches. Having faced one of last season’s Champions League finalists in midweek, Stuttgart faced the other here as they looked to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid. It took Sebastian Hoeness' men less than four minutes to shake off any thought of a European hangover, as Deniz Undav capitalized on Niklas Sule’s slip to race in behind and beat Gregor Kobel with a bobbled finish that went in off the post.

Juventus returned to European action in spectacular style, as Kenan Yildiz inspired them to a 3-1 win over PSV in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Stadium. PSV started with the confidence of a team that had comfortably won all of their opening five matches in the Eredivisie, but were soon blown away by a blistering six-minute spell of domination from the home side.

Barcelona were clinical on their way to a 5-1 win over Villarreal as the Blaugrana maintained their perfect start to their league campaign. The two teams showed plenty of early intent and Yeremy Pino offered a warning of his side’s quality with three wonderful touches before cushioning the ball over Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, although that was inconsequential due to the offside flag.
